Plain Roll Dough (Susan Benton)
Combine in small bowl: 1 pkg. yeast; ¼ c. warm water
Combine in large bowl: ¼ c. sugar; ¼ c. shortening; 1 t. salt
Stir in: 1 c. milk, scalded. Cool to lukewarm. Add: Softened yeast; 1 slightly beaten egg; 2 c. flour; then 1½ c. flour
Cover & let rise until double (about 1½ hrs.) Punch down. Turn out on lightly floured surface. Roll dough ¼" thick. Cut rounds. Shape into three small balls (should fill greased muffin cup). Brush each with melted butter or with milk or with 1 beaten egg diluted with 1 T. milk. Let rise 25-30 minutes. Bake @ 400° for 10-12 minutes.
