Sweet-Sour Red Cabbage (Karen Burbidge)
Simmer in ¼ c. bacon fat: 2-3 grated apples, 1 T. chopped onion, 1 T. sugar
Add & sauté a little: 2 lb. shredded cabbage (1 head)
Add: 4 slices bacon, fried and crumbled
Add: ¾ c. water, salt to taste, 1 bay leaf, 1-2 whole cloves Cook for 30-45 minutes adding additional 1½ c. water as needed.
Add: 2 T. vinegar, 2 T. flour or cornstarch. Add at end: 2 T. whole cranberries from can.
